The Jockey Club Apprenticeship Scheme

We are excited to announce the launch of The Jockey Club Apprenticeship Scheme, a significant development in our ongoing commitment to developing talent and fostering growth within the racing industry. This initiative will provide opportunities for aspiring professionals to gain hands-on experience, develop practical skills, and earn while they learn. The apprenticeships in this scheme will complement those already on offer and will offer a balanced approach between on-the-job training and structured learning through:

Workplace Experience:

Apprentices will be placed in departments where they will gain practical, hands-on experience relevant to their career goals.

Training Courses:

Apprentices will be provided with role-specific training.

Buddy Scheme:

Each apprentice will be paired with a ‘buddy’ in their team, providing valuable day-to-day support and guidance, helping them settle into the workplace and build a strong foundation for success.

Offer Accessible Career Pathways:

By providing an alternative to traditional education routes, our scheme enables young people from all backgrounds to gain valuable work experience while earning a qualification, opening the door to long-term career opportunities.

Support Our Racecourse Communities:

We are proud to offer apprenticeships in multiple locations, ensuring that young people in the communities around our racecourses have access to the scheme. This initiative helps bridge the skills gap and contributes to the local economies where we operate.

Invest in Future Talent:

By actively recruiting young people, we are developing a new generation of skilled professionals in the racing industry, ensuring that they have the tools and mentorship to succeed. This reflects our belief in the potential of every young person, regardless of their background, and our commitment to providing them with the chance to thrive.

The Jockey Club will recruit a minimum of five apprentices across the course of 2025 to complement existing placements, with roles focusing on such specialties as information services, facilities management and grounds maintenance. Our information services and grounds apprenticeships will be advertised in summer 2025, with the remaining apprenticeships advertised in the autumn.

The 2025 apprenticeships will be based at sites right across the country which you can view here
