Pupil Assistant

A Pupil Assistant supports the daily care and management of racehorses within a professional racing yard. This developmental role is ideal for individuals with previous racing yard experience who are keen to progress into senior stable, leadership, or training positions.

Working closely with the Trainer and senior staff, you will gain hands-on experience across horse care, stable operations, race preparation, and team communication in a structured learning environment.

Experience

Previous experience in leading staff, riding racehorses and looking after a yard of horses is essential.

Main Duties of a Pupil Assistant

  • Assist with daily horse care and training routines.
  • Prepare horses for exercise and racedays.
  • Support feeding, grooming, tacking up, and stable duties.
  • Help monitor horse health and welfare.
  • Work alongside vets, farriers, and physiotherapists.
  • Develop communication and leadership skills within the yard team.

  • Previous experience working in a racing yard.

  • Reliable, professional, and organised approach.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous racing apprenticeship or industry training.

  • Good general knowledge of stable management and the racing industry.
