A Jockey is a licensed individual who rides racehorses in races. The first step in becoming a jockey is to complete the Apprenticeship in Racehorse Care in a racing yard. If the Trainer thinks you are competent enough to become a Jockey, you can apply to attend a Jockey Licence Course.

How to get into this role
You will need to have studied for a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Racehorse Care before applying for your Apprentice or Conditional Licence. Jobs as Apprentice or Conditional Jockeys appear on the job board fairly regularly.
Career Progression
Once you have achieved a certain amount of race wins, you will become a Professional Jockey. There are also plenty of transferable skills you can use for other careers.
