The Racing Media Academy (RMA) has officially opened applications for its 2026 intake, offering aspiring media professionals a unique, fast-track opportunity to launch their careers within the vibrant world of horseracing media.
Now entering its fifth year, the RMA provides an unrivalled entry point for individuals passionate about racing and the media. The initiative, which has already helped launch the careers of numerous graduates now working across TV, radio, print, digital, and social platforms, offers hands-on paid work placements with leading media organisations across the horseracing industry.
The RMA is principally funded by its 14 media partners, with further support from The Racing Foundation, Godolphin and Spotlight Sports Group. To ensure that the RMA is fully accessible and inclusive to all that apply, it offers cadets that require financial help, access to a travel and accommodation bursary to aid the costs associated with being on placement.
Since inception, 51 RMA cadets have successfully completed the programme, achieving a 0% attrition rate — testament to the RMA’s supportive structure and the commitment of its participants. Impressively, 69% of graduates are now employed within the sporting arena, highlighting the programme’s success in developing genuine pathways and recruitment into the sport’s media.
The 2026 programme will once again deliver an immersive experience designed to give participants real-world insight and practical skills. Successful applicants will receive:
A week-long intensive training course at The British Racing School in Newmarket
Media placements with leading racing broadcasters, publications and digital platforms
Mentorship from established industry figures
Opportunities to build networks and gain first-hand experience
This year, the RMA proudly welcomes Total Performance Data as its newest media partner — bringing the total number of partner organisations to 14. Their involvement further expands the breadth of opportunities available to participants and underlines the growing commitment to nurturing new media talent within horseracing.
“The Racing Media Academy has already transformed the career paths of so many talented young people and continues to be a significant recruitment resource to the industry” said Josh Apiafi, Founder, Racing Media Academy. “We’re thrilled to open applications for the 2026 programme and to welcome Total Performance Data as our fourteenth media partner. Their support strengthens our mission to make horseracing media more inclusive, dynamic, and accessible for the next generation.”
“We are delighted to be joining as the 14th supporter and placement provider alongside a respected cohort of names within horseracing’s media.” added Will Duff-Gordon, CEO, Total Performance Data. “As the global leader in horseracing data, there is no better place for RMA candidates to get to grips with how to deliver our sport in a modern, visually engaging way to racing fans around the world.”
Matt Morris, RMA Class of 2025 – Marketing Executive, the Racing Club
“The RMA was truly an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, we were so well looked after and supported by Lee, Cath, Abby, Josh, and everyone at the BRS during our residential week. The programme was inspiring, packed with opportunities to learn from some of the very best in the racing and sports media industries. Through practical sessions, career advice, and industry insights, I gained so much. One of the most special parts of the week was meeting new people. I’ve made some very good friends on the course, and I know we’ll stay connected as we all move forward in our careers. This whole experience has been so special and has given me the belief, and the practical experience I needed to confidently pursue a future in racing media.”
