A Racing Groom plays a hands-on role in the daily care, preparation, and welfare of racehorses in training. They are responsible for grooming, mucking out, exercising and caring for horses on and off the racecourse

Main Duties of a Racing Groom
- Daily care of horses, such as feeding, watering and mucking out.
- Monitor the horse’s condition and carry out daily exercise.
- Groom, rug and tack up horses.
- Attend race meetings, caring for the horses prior to and after racing.
What the role requires
- Horse care and handling, such as equine health and first aid.
- Safe and efficient work practices (e.g. biosecurity and equipment checks).
- Team player with good communication skills.
Desirable Skills
- Prior horse handling experience essential.
- Knowledge on how to use and fit specific types of racing tack.
- Calm and confident around horses.
- Attention to detail and commitment to high welfare standards.
Working Conditions
- Early morning starts, including weekends, bank holidays and racedays.
- Physically demanding outdoor work.
