A Travelling Person is responsible for transporting racehorses to and from race meetings, ensuring their welfare during travel, and supporting the yard’s representation at racecourses.
They should represent the racing yard professionally at racecourses and manage communication with officials and stakeholders effectively.

Prior experience of working as a Racing Groom and transportation qualifications are desired.
Main Duties of a Travelling Person
- Drive horseboxes or lorries to races safely and efficiently.
- Prepare horses for racing: grooming, tacking up and pre-race checks.
- Represent the yard professionally at race meetings.
- Maintain travel and racing equipment.
- Record and report horse behaviour or concerns during travel or at the racecourse.
What the role requires
- Minimum of 2–3 years handling racehorses.
- Recognising signs of stress, illness or injury.
- Professional communication with race officials, vets, and clients
- Familiarity with BHA or IHRB regulations.
- Accurate completion of travel logs and horse passports.
- Time and route management for logistics.
Desirable Skills
- Advanced knowledge of equine health, feeding, welfare and stable routines.
- Understanding of race day protocols and procedures.
- First Aid for Equine Professionals certification.
- LGV licence (HGV Category C+E) may be essential for driving large horseboxes.
