The British Racing School’s Horseracing Gap Year is a brilliant opportunity for students finishing their A-Levels this year to get amazing experience in British horse racing, ahead of starting university in September 2026.
The course includes coaching at the British Racing School’s world-class training facilities in Newmarket, a paid placement at a British racing yard for the winter and 5 months at a racing yard in Australia.
Key information
7 weeks of training at the British Racing School (30th June – 15 August 2025)
On successful completion of the course, students will be found a 5 month placement (approx.) as a rider in a UK racing yard, paid in line with industry rates.
5 month placement at a racing yard in Australia, again paid in line with industry rates.
Aimed at A-Level students who already ride to a good standard
Weight limit: 11 stone
Opportunity to enrol on the Horseracing Industry BSc (Hons) degree delivered through the British Racing School and Hartpury University.
Costs
Training at the British Racing School is free.
There is a required contribution of £250 to cover food and accommodation
Please note: flights to and from Australia are not included and must be covered by the participant.
